Yes folks ... to run in conjunction with the Cold War Commanders annual 6mm/1:300th scale 'mega-game' up in Grimsby, this year we are holding a companion event down in the UK West Country at Slimbridge in Gloucestershire over the weekend of Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October 2019.

The venue is The Tudor Arms public house - great beer and food, and also good accommodation. Plus it also has a campsite and caravan park and is not far from the Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust.

The Tudor Arms, Shepherd's Patch, Slimbridge GL2 7BP
Phone: 01453 890306

Our intention is to try and set up on the evening of Friday 11th - access to the skittle alley permitting - and then play a series of 1:1 conjoined scenario games to feed into the big games up at Grimsby.

Watch this space and the Grimsby thread for more details, but this is a Central Front based game - so a chance to bring out your French, Americans, Soviets and West Germans.

Pledge your allegiance to one game or another and one side or the other here on this thread.

All welcome - old CWC veterans or newbies or escapees from that Battlefront Cold War game that I refuse to name so as not to give it the air of publicity!

Any questions ... just mail me

After no 6mm shenanigans for some time, I am very much looking forward to this!

I think I will use it as an opportunity to get my Dutch stuff painted up and on the table.

Oo-er, first time out of the box though...I'll have to get some practice games in and wipe out the curse.

Cueball - you'd be most welcome to join us at Slimbridge.

We are fighting Central Front (or so I am led to believe by Richard)

We'll keep you posted and updated.

Cheers

So, with only 100 days to go until Slimbridge, is there any update on plans?

I imagine a few of you made it to 'Joy of 6' and put your heads together.

I forgot it was on and went home for the weekendConfused

Slimbridge/Grimsby Update

Hi Chaps,

I am slowly getting there with maps etc for both venues plus a map for our friends down under. You'll have to bear with me at the moment as my wife has been diagnosed with a melanoma in her eye and there's a lot of travelling about for scans Sad

Yes it is Central Front and will be based around the crossing of the Weser Water Barrier. Beginning with the Soviets already across in most places. I will have more info by the weekend.

Cheers

Call for Players

Would you be interested in joining us at the Slimbridge Cold War Commanders annual battle weekend in October?

We are looking for players who can attend either both the Saturday & Sunday or just one day to play either Soviet or NATO.

6mm armies are the order of the day and the defending NATO forces can be composed of:
West Germans
USA with a Dutch contingent
Belgian
Canadian
French
The attacking Warsaw Pact force is composed of:
7 Guard Army
elements of 103rd Guards Airborne
This is an Attack/Defense game with forces built to original 1985 ORBATs - no pimping of commanders, no special ammunition, air assets will be limited and bought and coordinated centrally for each side (excluding on-table helicopters).

The Soviet attackers will enjoy a 3:1 points advantage over the defending NATO forces, who can use hasty defenses, but these must be bought within the points restrictions.

We will be using Cold War Commanders House Rules.

So, if you can attend let me know ASAP please. If you need an army, we might be able to supply you with one.

Currently we are looking to set up 12 foot of terrain on the evening of Friday 11th October.

Many thanks

Sign me up Mark.

I was just doing Dutch originally but I can sling some US 2nd Armd Div (Fwd) on the table to babysit them, if need be.

Why did I think we were doing 1989? Was that a previous event, Arctic Strike or something?

I have Canadian 4th Mech if anyone needs it, but I think Rodger does too. I believe my CAST force is still crossing the North Atlantic. They only set off 2 years ago...

Hi Nick - great to have you onboard playing NATO.

Happy if you just want to use Dutch (on it's own).

So that's max 5,000pts of NATO for you, including hasty field defenses and you can deploy dug-in but must buy trenches (5pts) Artillery emplacements (10pts) and Tank emplacements (15pts) per unit.

No special ammo (other than Smoke)
No 'pimping' commanders
No aircraft - but on-table helicopters (if within your Orbat) must be bought and included

Richard & I are tweaking the Cold War Commander House Rules - so they are compliant with the proposed CWCII upgrades. So they will be out shortly.

Roger is your Slimbridge Canadian ally, and Alan your Belgium.

Cheers

Evening All,

Just under 6 weeks to go now; I know Roger and Alan are also playing NATO, whose playing the Injuns?

Also, who else is planning to stay over at the Tudor Arms, or am I propping up the bar on my own?

You are facing my illustrious self as Soviet commander plus Owain on Saturday (or is it Sunday ... I cannot remember) but also Dr Evil himself (AKA Chemical Gordon)!!!

Not sure if Gordon is staying at the Tudor Arms? I will find out. But like all World Dominating Super Villains, his movements are circumspect.

I'm just back from a weeks holiday and will be working (with Richard) on the House Rules ASAP

Cheers

You mean Gordon has sallied from his remote highland fastness!?! I'm equally honoured and fearful GrinBlackeye to face him! It's been a couple of years since I've seen him, can't promise what sort of state the mornings will see us in, cos he likes a beer as I recall!

Hi Mark

Couple of questions about the house rules.

1/ Barbed wire is now 5pts for only 30mm, rather than 200mm. Quite a difference; what was the thoughts behind this?

2/. 'Tank scrapes' are included in the list as 'soft' field defences at 15pts each. Do these provide cover side/front/side, therefore x 3 the cost of trenches @ 5pts ( but trenches only giving cover from the front? )

3/. Anti-tank ditches aren't mentioned. Are they not counted as 'soft' field defences?

4/. Units in field defences cause attackers to their front to deduct 1 of their attack dice. Is this in addition to the 4/5/6 to hit for open/soft/hard cover.

5/. ATGW/AAGW do not now receive +1 dice for being within half range. Has any similar restriction been put on evade below half range, to adjust for less time to react?

6/. Dug-in units remaining hidden. Any enemy aircraft passing within 50cm of their position will be able to spot them. Are they then visible to any enemy unit within line-of-sight? This sounds a bit alarming!Stunned Even a recce stand will need a 5/6 to spot them wouldn't they?

Cheers

Hi Nick
Thanks for these

1/ Wire was far too cheap previously - in BKC games it was starting to dominate the games (so BKCIV errata will change that). Wire is a problem in all the Commander rules (as I see it) as it is too cheap and far too effective.

2/ correct - spot on in-fact - I will put in a clarification note.Gun pits also give cover on 3 sides but guns are generally easier to hit - even in pits. Trenches only to the front.

3/ No - AT Ditches are classified as Hard Defences (so not
applicable to this scenario)

4/ Yes - but all trenches, gun pits and scrapes are always Soft cover

5/ Good call - will add that in - it also fits with the minimum range change

Cheers
Mark
