Just a quickie...

For the LANDJUT campaign is there a particular convention that folks are using for their infantry - specifically is there a preferred base size and a preferred number of figures for any given type of infantry stand?

Don't think so. I use 30x20 or 30x30 (most 30x20). other people use other sizes, 40x20 seems common. So long as they are not grossly different don't think it makes any difference.

As Ian says base very much as you like. Just make sure your HQs and observers are easily discernable from your ordinary infantry. There are lots of examples on people's blogs.

I think there are as many ways to base troops as there are players. I use 6 figures per infantry unit on a 25mm x 15mm base.
A good method is to base regular troops on rectangular or square bases and HQs, FAOs etc on round bases, so they are easy to tell apart. As Steve put, it's important to be able to see which units are HQs, especially in a big multiplayer game like Landjut.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in replying - I've been away over the weekend and could see the replies but couldn't log in from the device I was using.

For my vehicles I'm using 20 x 40 rectangular bases for regular vehicles, 40mm round for lower level HQs and 50mm round for higher HQs. For recce I'm using 20 x 40 pill shaped bases - so I think I've got those areas covered. If you're on Facebook you'll be able to see the pictures of my National Volksarmee vehicles that I've posted up so far.

I was planning something similar, but probably a little smaller for the infantry.

Cheers, all input much appreciated.

I have been 'trialing' a system where the frontage of my IFVs/APCs is equivalent to the frontage of my infantry bases.

So my Dutch infantry are on 40mm wide by 20mm deep bases (I have 6 for regulars, 4 for Elites & 8 for conscripts).
My IFVs are also based on 40mm wide bases by 30mm deep bases. It allow me to easily dismount the infantry to the exact frontage of their transports.
My Nato MBTs are on 20mm frontage by 40mm deep.
I have AA elements & ATGW vehicles on 40mm square bases.

For my Warsaw pact stuff I am moving to 30mm square bases for all vehicles elements except command and Recce. I put my Recce on UK 1p pieces; I put FAOs on UK 2p pieces and FACs on hexagonal bases. My HQs are 40mm square, my CO on 60mm sqaure and all my infantry will be on 30mm frontage by 20mm deep.

At Berkeley we now have a convention that all infantry (in FWC and we are moving there in CWC) are on at least 30mm frontages.

Cheers
