It's been a few years since I've played, but I'm jumping back in with some new forces - in micro scale. Here are the first elements - some modern British.

There's more over on my blog:

Thanks, Mark!

Yes - GHQ.

I was at the Sentry Box in Calgary on vacation last week and picked up four of their combat commands. I'm doing the British first, then I have some Soviets with T-80s and BMP-2s and then a USMC task force. I also picked up a Chinese battlegroup for a friend who is interested in playing.

Hopefully I'll have more pics of minis to post soon - and some battle reports some time after that!

Here is the next batch - Challenger 2s and assorted HQ elements. All models are from GHQ.

HQs and Challenger 2s

FV436 with a Cymbeline mortar locating radar - HQ #1

FV439 signals vehicle - HQ #2

Four Challenger 2s representing the four troops of a squadron.

Later this week I should finish up the Warrior IFVs and the Artillery.

Looking good. Based on our game at Joy of 6 on Sunday, a couple of squadrons of Challenger Is should be enough to hold off a Soviet Motor Rifle Regt, so Chally IIs should do the job nicely. Nice painting and basing.

Thanks Andy!

I've been on a roll with these and finished up the last of the battle group:

The Warrior IFVs and AS-90 self-propelled artillery

Here is the entire battlegroup, so far. What I have is an armoured squadron of Challenger 2 tanks, two reinforced companies of mechanized infantry mounted in Warrior IFVs, and a battery of self-propelled artillery.

Currently I am thinking this will be organized as follows:

1x CO (the FV439 signals vehicle - Command Value 10) - 120 points
3x HQ (Two small foot elements and the FV436 with a Cymbeline mortar locating radar - Command Value 9) - @60 = 180 points
4x Tank Units (Challenger 2) @235 = 940
8x IFV Units (Warrior) @75 = 600
8x Infantry Unit (Regulars) @30 = 240
8x Infantry Upgrade (LAW-80) @ 50 = 400
3x Artillery Unit (155mm AS-90) @80 = 240

This comes in at 2720 points.

It's been a while since I've played and I recognize I might need to change a few things around when I re-read the rules - not totally sure if the FV436 with a Cymbeline mortar locating radar should be an HQ for the Artillery or an FAO...? Do I need both? At some point I'd like to add a few other elements - some FAOs and FACs (not sure if those should be in Land Rovers or Sultan CVR(T)s?) and some sort of recce elements (Scimitars?) and maybe some sort of air support for those FACs to call in (Harrier?).

Suggestions?

What else does this force need?

Oh, and I've created a page on my blog to collect all the pictures of my micro battlegroups for CWC:

Looking great.

I'd add a tracked Rapier and/or Javelin team in Spartan for air defence. Then a pair of FV438 or Spartan with Milan as an ATGM unit. Then I'd also allocate a Milan II team to each infantry company, probably mounted in one of the company Warriors. That's probably all you'd need for a self contained battlegroup of battalion strength with an infantry company swopped for a Chally II squadron as a cross attachment. Some engineering assets might be useful, e.g. a Chieftain AVLB and a Chieftain or Centurion AVRE. Maybe an MLRS battery for some heavy arty support.

Very tasty. A little integral AA is a good plan, always though the lack of a mobile gun option for local AD was a mistake.
