Sorry to trouble folks with this topic again but was there ever general agreement to the question if ATGW could fire at attack helicopters. Reading through several posts and threads it seems that there was no consensus. Perhaps hit on a 6 but the heli gets a chance of an evade...no chance on a pop up attack?

It is generally played that ATGW can fire at helicopters. It was practice/doctrine on both sides of the Iron Curtain.

There has been some debate about the different types of launchers (early v late, ground launched v vehicle or MTB, even helo to helo) and especially how effective MBT launched ATGW would have been, but it all gets too complex to differentiate (IMHO) between them

Hit on a 6 seems a bit harsh - I'd go for 5/6 but would allow for an evade. I am not sure how you differentiate a 'pop up' attack from any other TBF. Given the time-frame of a move the choppers is probably moving about a fair bit anyway.

Within the game, if not real life, the main thing for me would be the helo has to decide whether to carry on with their action or to evade the op fire ATGM. If the former then they risk suppression or destruction, if the latter, that activation comes to an end. Well worth an ATGM to find out.

There's certainly been a few cases in Syria recently of ATGWs being used against landed helos.
