I'm pondering an infantry only game - inf, MG, mortars with a little arty.

I was thinking of keeping hits on to speed the game along, BUT allowing command units to REMOVE a hit as well as the result of a successful "order" to reflect the officers rallying the men etc...

Has anyone tried anything like this?

Similar mechanism in black powder, but it can only be used as a final order and may result in a blunder.

I've not tried keeping the hits on although I have done purely inf / mg / arty battles with BKC2

Sounds like a good mechanism

The only downside being that units will have to drag their hit markers with them

See http://twomarshals.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/... for an RJW battle using BKC2

sgraham - yes, that's where I pinched the idea from! The blunder issue hadn't dawned on me though.

I Like the look of all those RJW.

I just fancy doing something that isn't a tank-park!

It would be an interesting challenge, lots of scurrying from cover to cover and searching for concealed approaches to positions - you'd need lots of terrain.

"you'd need lots of terrain"

It might be less of an issue of commanders can remove hits - just 1 per successful order? So you pass a command roll get some units to move, then take op fire and a unit suffers a few hits. Then, if you pass again, it's either keep moving forward or fire or remove one of the hits. I think I'd allow only 1 to be removed per successful order.

Also, if there are troops dug in hits would become less likely anyway.

"you'd need lots of terrain"

At Berkeley Vale we use "reverse terrain" where the entire table is classed as low area terrain / soft cover, ie hit on 5+

open areas then become terrain features

Be interesting to test out. Please do post up an AAR if you get a chance to try it out and it would be great to know how you decide to do it.

Cheers, Andy
