Has anyone played and/or converted this boardgame to miniature based play? Seems like it might be ideal; small unit sizes, objective based... fun stuff.Question

I´ve played it. I like it, fairly simple and quick to play. i also converted it to boardgame by using a hexmat and 1:600 minis. It worked great and looked great. Then, to simplify I just ignored the hexes and measured 1 inch = 1 hex" so a shooting range of 8 hexes was a shooting range of 8 inches, moving 6 hexes was 6 inches of movement. Note as you "loose" the easy way to measure it might not suit very competitve players (where to measure range? Hull to hull or barrel end to hull, from middle of vehicle to middle of vehicle?) Work out these little kinks, "give and take a bit" with your opponent and it works out great!

There are numerous supplements for both West German and British units. There is also plans for a Swedish supplement. In LnL´s magazine "Line of fire" there are scenarios for Israel vs Arabs.

It is an enjoyable game very well supported by LnL. Easily converted to table top.

Have it and the Blood and Bridges expansion on order, following the reviews on Boardgamegeek.

Am looking forward to it, and will post my views when I've had a couple of outings.

I have 'Blood and Bridges', 'Eisenbach Gap' and 'Death of 1st Panzer'. Not tried converting yet, but probabily will.

I had a hard look at these but decided not to buy because:

a) the forces were really too small for my liking

b) the rules were very pro-NATO. Every NATO company may activate twice per turn, no Warsaw Pact unit can activate more than once per turn.

Mind you the scenarios seem interesting - I especially liked the 'as yet unavailable' one for Sweden!

Very good sources says that in "Op Garbo" the soviets will have units that activate twice. Many of the Soviet units in "Op Garbo" are elite paratroopers and Marine infantry so they will get 2 activations.

Some Swedish units will only get one activation, as they are made up of conscripts.

The expansions only add to the original game and are not playable without it. However, the rules are available to download from their site. One person on the Micro-armor yahoo group has converted the game to miniatures. see http://thehistoricalminiaturist.blogspot.com/se...

Eisenbach Gap and Blood and Bridges are both stand alone games. Death of First Panzer is not.

I am not sure about the more recent supplements as I have not picked them up yet.

The games are a great deal of fun, but do provide smaller battles than most of us might be looking to break out the miniatures for.

NATO forces may activate twice and Soviets only once (on average) but there are "end of turn" chits in the draw to mix things up a bit, so it is not a sure bet that NATO will move twice to the Soviet's one.
