Its still in the planning stages, but I am going to revive my flagging solo campaign (how many campaigns stall, I wonder?). The Khemed 2.0

It has been far too long since I did any Khemed gaming. And its not for lack of thinking about, painting for and planning games, just that pesky real life. However, I've used the half term break and the impetus of the Grimsby weekend and getting some gaming hours under my belt to reacquaint myself with the campaign.

So, real life has thus far prevented me from getting a game in this week, but I intend to rectify that tomorrow evening. In the meantime, I gamed out an air raid on Wadesdah by the mercenary pilots of Paladin Security, using Khemedi Airforce planes. Their target was the battered forces of Task Force Pelham, recently evicted from Wadesdah Airport, after a series of battles over the first 5 days of the campaign, interspersed with some Scud attacks, one of which used a chemical warhead. They therefore beat a retreat back to Wadesdah in order to regroup and counter-attack with some heavy air reinforcements. In the meantime, 2 SU-22's and 2 AMX fighter bombers staged out of the airstrip at Mazarakhir and attacked the Marines of Task Force Pelham. This paper exercise gave me a chance to tinker with my house rules for air attacks and although the Marines benefitted from the cover provided by a Built Up Area, they showed that if an air strike is launched against forces in the open, they will suffer. And that AA assets are vital, as TF Pelham has just lost its Avenger SAM platoon and relied on Command Units and presumably massed .50cal fire and possibly some missile locks from the anti-air assets of the MEB ships offshore. However they did it, the result was that one of the SU-22's was driven off by AA fire, as was one of the AMX's. The remaining SU-22 drove home its attack and managed to destroy one of the Marine's AAVP-7 'Tuna Boats'. The AMX caused hits but no lasting damage. All four aircraft returned to Mazarakhir. Next up will be a small game with a Delta team (some mounted on horseback) running down to earth a Scud launcher in the Jebel, near to the ESA Observatory. The Scud launcher has an integral security platoon and AA assets so the Delta operators will be looking to pin the Scud and call in maximum air support. Or maybe launch a cavalry charge. Pictures and update to follow asap.

What figures did you use for the mounted Delta force?

Hi Richard, I bought Baccus Mahdi cavalry from their Colonial Wars range, thinking that a bit of cutting here and there might make them more suitable. So its them, with the riders cut off and some GHQ US infantry chopped in and green stuff filling the gaps. They've come out pretty decent, I think. One of my WIP's has a chap wielding an RPG on it. I'm hoping to fit a big game in before Christmas, I'm thinking the final battalion will make an amphibious landing so I can use my LCAC's.

Thanks Neil, they look great you've done a cracking job converting them. I thought they looked like GHQ figures so I was searching the GHQ site for new releases GrinGrin

Neil, thought you'd like this

The commander of A-595, Captain Mitch Nelson, SITREP - Battle of Mazar e Sharif November 2001.

“I am advising a man on how to best employ light infantry and horse cavalry in the attack against Taliban T-55s, mortars, artillery, personnel carriers, and machine guns – a tactic which I think became outdated with the invention of the Gatling gun. The mujaheddin have done this every day we have been on the ground. They have attacked with 10 rounds of ammunition per man, with snipers having less than 100 rounds – little water and less food. I have observed a PK gunner who walked 10-plus miles to get to the fight, who was proud to show me his artificial leg from the knee down.

We have witnessed the horse cavalry bounding over-watch from spur to spur to attack Taliban strong points – the last several kilometers under mortar, artillery, and sniper fire. There is little medical care if injured, only a donkey ride to the aid station, which is a dirt hut. I think the mujaheddin are doing very well with what they have."

Cheers

Hi Richard, it's a piece of see through plastic, from some bit of packaging, I think. Cut into a suitable shape and given a light white dry brush on the edges. I'll email you a picture of it close up.
