Online Thesis:
http://www.louisdimarco.com/mecz_cavalry_d... Excellent read. Agree with most of DiMarco's findings. Interesting that he shoulders most of the blame for U.S. Cavalry shortcomings on Herr, but places very little of the blame on AGF Gen. McNair whom while a proponent of Mechanization, also championed the whole Tank Destroyer doctrine at the expense of both Armor and Cavalry branches. DiMarco plainly indicates multiple times that this lack of anti-armor capabilities is a central and serious shortcoming of U.S. WW II Cavalry. Being a thesis on Cavalry doctrine and not TD doctrine is the reason I suppose but there is some pretty clear carry over and warranted some finger pointing IMO.
Still a great read... Highly recommend. The PDF download link appears to be dead but it's still free online!
