Hello!

I'm located in Flensburg and am about to start collecting armies and terrain for Cold War Commander in 6mm scale, as this was the scale the game was first introduced to me in and I think both miniatures and opponents are broadly available for that scale.

I'm looking for players located in northern Germany or southern Denmark. Although I am not THAT mobile (having no car) I'm sure games can be arranged and I am ready to invest in transportation (yours or mine) to get to play.

***Previously on CWC...***

Directed at unit1997, continuing our previous discussion:

Well it still is quite a drive. I don't have a car unfortunately. :/ Maybe I can subsidise your driving, or something.

Regarding armies and scale:
My plan is to collect both German armies (Bundeswehr and Nationale Volksarmee) in 6mm scale for the period 83-89, maybe adding American and Russian battlegroups later on.

I already bought the CWC rules, but since I am a university student I'll have to save up a bit of money before I can place my first order for terrain and units. I do have 15mm WW2 miniatures aplenty though, as well as a good amount of terrain in that scale.

***Terrain***

Here's my table in three configurations (village, river, beach assault):

The rivers, wood-bases and hills could be used for 6mm scale as well I think, so I only need new roads, buildings and trees.

I hope to have troops and terrain ready by July. It's a long way in the future I know, but I really don't have the money right now to "start big" and I don't want to promise deadlines I probably won't be able to keep. Grin

Beste Grüße aus Flensburg,

I'm not dead, in case anyone was wondering! Grin

I'm currently trying to restart CWC in my area (as the last time unfortunately, it didn't really "take off" :( ). I'm translating the rules into German, as well as streamlining their presentation a bit, so hopefully the others will start reading the rules as well. Grin

Of course I had to expand my terrain with this new found enthusiasm.

Special terrain pieces (football field, bases for the buildings, car dealership, gas stations etc.) will be added at some point, but my main concern were vegetation and water this time. The treelines might receive flock as well in the future, but there's tons of them and I'd have to buy new flock.

I built two swamps, two ponds and added 150-180 trees (for a new total of over 350), as well as the woods-bases. Many of the trees are 40mm nails with a bit of foam (leftovers from customizable foamtrays) on top. Overall I bought little new stuff, just finished up what I had and used leftovers/trash.

Roads have been completely redone with Z scale 'asphalt roads' from Busch glued to 0.75mm plasticard. I now have
45° angles (4x)
90° curves (4x)
20cm, 25cm, 30cm (2x, 4x, 4x)
as well as the bridge to create civilized landscapes.

The bridge isn't new; I had built it last year out of two low walls for H0 scale gardens (that I turned around to become pillars Grin ) and a bit of styrofoam for the mainbody and ramps. It now has received an asphalt road topping as well, along with guard railes on the sides. The "rails" used to be planks on a roof of a construction site in H0 scale as well.

Fields are made of model train supplies that were lying around for a long time. I finally drybrushed them with different colors, et voilá: North German Plains.

Buildings are the same as ever, forming small villages.

I think so far terrain has cost me a lot more than miniatures have. Grin Nonetheless I'll expand my East Germans with GHQ T-55Ms soon (if they're available), along with new infantry from heroics & ros.

It's going to be a good year, for wargaming. Grin

This terrain is tremendous! So intricate and so edging to realism, WOW! Good terrain does help to make it look like a good game. Thanks for the great insights with your excellent photos!Grin
You could always try the Heroics and Ros new T55s on their revamped website? I will soon be buying some!

H&R SM95 T-55AM2B and SM99 T-55-1? Can't go far wrong with them?

Thanks Grin I too hope it sees some action soon!

In regard to the T-55s: I already have GHQ vehicles, and the H&R ones (at least the ones I once ordered) don't really match, neither in scale nor in detail. Even worse the Marder Roland from H&R is just... a thing that should not be. That has made me cautiouts and is the reason why I'd rather go with the expensive GHQ ones (which are mysteriously unavailable at times, though).

However, I'll order H&R infantry anyway, so I might as well get a sample T-55 to check if it works out. Smile

Thanks for the advice!

That looks great! Superb terrain.

I apologize for not getting back to you, but there was some trouble in the family. A relative was charged preliminarily with fraud for a quarter billion Danish Kroner and committed suicide soon after by jumping out of a building.

As for CWC I have all my miniatures now and most of my paint. The latter proved to be a bit difficult as the wargaming store employees were not very helpful which made finding colours matching the MERDC scheme tedious.

I'm sorry to hear that William, that sounds terrible. :(

Regarding "getting back": Not to worry. Before I had my reecent "land rush", yours was the last post (september 2014 I think), so it would've been my 'turn' to reply anyway. Wink

In any case, I'm happy to hear you got your units. Smile MERDC patterns can be tough due to the variants, you must really like the challenge! If you get around to it, post some pictures of your progress.

@edenviews: I've found a review for the new T54, T54/55, T-55-1 and T-55M from H&R on a blog and they seem to be bigger and much more detailed models than the old ones!
Since I'm thinking about getting 18-20 of this glorious-tank-of-superior-design™, I think I'll go with H&R's T-55-1 (T-55A's for the main bulk from 75 to 1982) and a few T-55Ms (T-55AM2 and T-55AM2P for battles from 1984 onward). From 1978 the Panzerdivisions were re-equipped with T-72M and T-72M1, which by 1990 formed the entirety of the tank force (with T-55s in reserve and in the tank regiments of the Motorised Rifle Divisions).

I'll also have to add/copy a new profile line for the T-55AM2 and T-55AM2P, as it was equipped with 'Bastion'¹ ATGM. I think there's already a line for that in the Soviet Arsenal, that is missing from the Warsaw Treaty grade 1 lists.² Scandalous! Grin
Will post my results, once I get them.

Thing with H&R is, some of their models are really great and others... aren't. Would definitely help if they had more pictures on their page!

A friend of mine is bringing his Brits over tomorrow, to get a bloody nose from my East Germans, will shoot/post some pictures if I find the time.

I will be buying some T-55AM2B and wondered about difference between T-55-1 and T-55-A as I would get some out of indulgence. I suppose I'm bored as I have loads of old ones many of which I scratch-built HMGs for. I have 2 Iraq types too. Some T-64 ERA, more T-72M and some Chinese Type-69 II might be enough to rid my boredom!
H&R since the merger with Armstrong have been upping the quality indeed. My all-time worst model of theirs was the Jagdpanther. I bought some, tried to iron out the rubbish with a large dose of the Stanley knife blade, painted them then sold them. My Skytrex ones are so much better. A new master of this would be my hope.Grin
I hope someone invades your part of Germany(terrain!) soon!Grin
