Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anyone had any views on what would be a good points value (per army) for a 2-4 hour game of CWC?

For starting, I'd about 2000pts. That should get you a decent mix of a couple HQs, tanks, infantry and support weapons with some off table support.

It depends though on WHEN and WHO you're playing - mid to late 80's NATO 1st tier tanks are exceptionally expensive and 2000pts doesn't get you a lot after you buy four Abrams or Challies or Leo2 Wink

A reinforcement Soviet Tank Regt. with T-55's and BTR-50's gets you a lot more kit to shove around!

Don't do points! They're horrible. Far better would be to select semi-realistic forces. Try a slightly reinforced (maybe by a tank co?) NATO infantry battalion (of whatever flavour you fancy) being attacked by a WP Motorised Rifle Regiment (3 APC battalions, 1 tank battalion, etc.) or a Tank Regiment (3 tank battalions, 1 APC battalion). If you don't have that exactly, don't worry, no TO&E off the page ever went into battle in that form. Adjust accordingly, but keep about a 3(WP):1(NATO) minimum ratio, more if NATO is well dug in. I've fought battles along those lines in a club evening easily and had good fun.

Thanks everyone,
Yes I am having arguments with battlegroups online over trying to force it to accept historic TO&E's (trying to model a 'heavy' British Armoured Brigade).

Thanks for the steer on 2000-3000pts for a 2-4 hour game.

Eh, points are just a way to balance a game easily so you don't have to juggle; CWC has enough scenarios and set up changes to make it work ok, and you can build your list according to a "proper" TOE within that.

No balancing system or rather no scenario creation and set up system is ever perfect but there's nothing inherently wrong with a points based system, or a "juggle it and hope" system, or even a semi-random table driven "never quite sure what you expect" system or...

Might be worse, it could be Age of Sigmar "bring whatever you fancy" Wink Which might appeal, if you have a reasonable opponent, in depth knowledge of troops and numbers and the time to set up a "proper" balanced scenario where either side can "win" Grin
