A query - it states in the Battlegroup notes that Massive Units (walkers) cannot be transported? How do people play them letssay for a planetary assault? How do they get to the surface - teleportation/own power?

Cheers

Just assume they get dropped and have brakes or something like that to slow them down for landing Wink

Does this mean that massive units can do dropship assaults?

I look forward to dropping the Marine's M8 Hellfire (with 12 infantry spaces as well) onto the table or better still the MacGregor Clan Juggernaut

I just hope Gordon misses this thread

I think close assault maybe a bit much, but potential to deploy ground troops from them would be good!

Cross698, Shedman was being flippant as our mate Gordon likes test the rules Grin

The intent is to assume units are landed somehow on the planet then move to the battlefield. Only those with specific abilities or tech may 'just appear' on table in the middle of a battle (subject to command rolls, response fire, deviation etc, etc...), such as teleport, dropships/pods, tunnellers. Everyone else, including massive walkers are assumed to have landed and then deploy as per the rules.

Sorry Cross698
Gimme

Actually why can't massive units drop straight into a fight like dropships?

Treat them exactly like dropships with the exception that a) they use up their shields soaking up the re-entry heat so they can't be used for defense and b) that's their entire turn.

The only exceptions would be the HS Mob's Big and Massive 'Ard Beasts as they would just splat on the ground

Well if some one wants to give it a go then go for it.

Of course not being aircraft everything in range can shoot them I assume...and they are hit on 3s... Evil

Sounds good - a free-for-all drop-ship style assault

Or could be the basis for the Sunday mini campaign

5 tables - Marines have to establish an LZ on central table then push out to recce other 4

Any volunteers - Private Stanton?

Actually I am planning a 'Massives' participation game for next years Boot Camp - a Pacific Rim type scenario
GrinGrinGrin

But I 'ad a thought ... not often I know ... & dangerous ... but ear we go ...

Thought about Massives being able to allocate hits across all none-massive attackers - that way we avoid the problem of a Massive being attacked by a load of enemy, but one single enemy stand 'soaking-up' all the damage to protect the others .... as I say ... just a f'ort.

PS: has anybody bought any of the Pacific Rim monster figures yet? I am waiting until they get a bit cheaper on eBay.

PS: it might actually be a Baltic or Caspian Sea Rim game - as it's a strong possibility that my Neo-Sovs might be the defenders Wink

Aha ! Too late now shedman, I have found the thread.

I have always just used the rules for mobile deployment, but happy to see some house-rules for orbital deployment of troop-carrying massive walkers.

In a recent thread Pete suggested allowing Massive units to recharge shields by using a command order, not just initiative only. This would be worth some trials as well.

Good topic for a Sunday Bootcamp !Cool
