Hi there! I got my copy of FCW recently and am reading it at the moment. I really like the basic ideas of combat and get most of the rules for now, even if I had no time to play a match yet. What still confuses me a bit is obviously the most important thing - command units.
Since there's not much information on how to build a custom force, I wonder how many command units I should have in my army. Since they are expensive I don't want to buy much of them, since they are that important I cannot have enough it seems... what is a good balance here?
The other awkward thing to me is their movement range. Surely it's important they they reach positions on the battlefield rather quickly - but still I wonder about command units WALKING 60cms across the field (like they do in the FCW lists for Grandma Wendy armies, f.e. the Hunter-Scavenger-Mob CO has Movement 60F). With Command armies that fast and not directly targetable to the enemy, there seems to be no reason to have command vehicles at all, right?

Maybe someone could enlighten me a little bit, please. I didn't find much information about this in the rule-book yet. On the other hand english is not my mother tongue, maybe I got something wrong. Thanks for reading, guys! Smile

Ok... I just found the column "limit" in the unit stats... One question answered, sorry!

With Hunter-Scavvies you'll need all the command units you can get! A command unit can represent anything - my Hunter-Scavvies have a mix of "commander" figures, WW2 Kettenkrads and light vehicles.

You must buy one CO. Buy the best CV option in your H-S list. Buy as many recce as you are allowed and always try and boost the CO's CV by communication. That will be fine for up to 1000 AP, and probably OK to 1500 AP if you keep your force from spreading out too far. Then I would buy about one HQ per extra 1000 AP. Remember to buy more than one FAO if you have a lot of off-table artillery to maximize their chance of shooting. Happy Games !Cool

Thank you guys! Rules become clearer and clearer now, but sometimes it's a bit tricky to search all those things. This is really good support here!

Normally I'd agree with Big Walker on HQ numbers, but Hunter-Scavvies are so poor on the CV's, and the HQ's are so cheap, I'd actually always suggest buying as many HQs as is possible. Cover the table with them and hopefully someone ends up close enough to command someone useful.

Plus they make great "black sky" AAA cover Smile

agree with toxic on the scavies, for a 1000 pt min CO & 2 HQ. This allows you to split troops into different groups to hopefully! harass the opponent. Although that said, had one game where the HQ coming in from side of table to intercept a convoy, resolutely refused to do anything so the convoy escaped!

on other lists where the CO is CV10, don't bother with additional HQ. for the CV9 guys, depends on the physical number of troops in the list. the more stands you have the more need for an additional HQ.

The other useful trick for the scavies is to double the commander cost to upgrade his CV by 1. Worth its weight in gold!

Oh hell yes, doubly-secondly-trebly agreed with. They're also so cheap it's still not too pricey Grin

Hey Skullhamma told you that you would get good advice on this forum. Smile FWC players are a bit thin on the ground on the Tactical Command forum.
