A recce Gyrocopter with 30A movement (from MacGregor Clan list) makes a move across the enemy front. When carrying out opportunity fire, is it :

(1) all enemy units may use normal direct fire vrs the recce unit in the open
or
(2) as above but only those with AA-capable weapons degraded by one vrs recce (essentially adaptive camo in the air)

ThanksCool

Isn't on table Air movement the same as on table gunships use, who are still only shot at by AA capable stuff? I think... would have to check the FWC rulebook, am going from memory of my "black sky swarm" of not-Ork mini-copters...

Hi Paul

As I said at Bootcamp, I don't think you shoot at an 'Arm of Service' you shoot at ground targets or air targets. Now gunships and dropships can land and are explicitly covered in the rules. Air movement recce is not, hence this topic, hoping for a ruling from Pete.

We can make a house-rule, but I would like to know what was intended when the rules were written....

I'm firmly in the 'arm of service' camp. It solves many problems with Air movement type that are not performing aircraft functions like an airstrike or airbourne assault.

Sooo much simpler that way.

Maybe simpler, but it does make gunships etc very easy to kill... although then they'd be AIR for AoS, so I guess by that reasoning you'd target them with SAMs only, whilst identical in movement and capability AIR movement mode units are targeted by everyone as normal Grin

Ahhh, the joys of rules wrangling Grin

It's at least 18 months since my "Red SkY Squadron" took to the field and I'm not sure anyone actually managed to shot at them then anyway!

But are not gunship Air arm? in which case normal rules apply to gunships.

And don't forget 'to hit' against gunships, dropships and pods is reduced anyway.

It's things like Elohe Riders that are infantry but air movement or recon that are airmovement that cause issues.

Plus I've just been nudged by an sms text that Smart Missiles are allowed to target gunships as normal... at least I think that was what was intended as I've no rules to hand but the txt arrived after my original post and referenced the SM rules

I know, that's what I say above - AIR Arm of Service using on table Air movement can only be engaged by AA (& Smart Missiles), whilst other units using on table Air movement can be shot at by anyone Grin
