I played my first game of FWC commander last night and had a great time. However, we had an odd scenario that I want to make sure we handled correctly.

We played Scenario 5 - Colonization Relocation. Both forces have mobile deployment. The defender (the guy with the colonists) had 2 command units. He failed the command roll with both units in the first turn. So that means nothing was on the board. The attacker moved his forces onto the board as normal.

The rule book says you "may make one command roll for each command unit at the edge of the table during the command phase."

Does that mean each command unit gets a chance to order the whole force on or can the force be spit up into multiple rolls? For example, split the force in half and each command unit orders one of the halves?

yep - can split into formations as you see fit.

Might find that you'd be better splitting off the faster stuff so the penalty is less. Also give those you need to come on to the CO with the better CV.

Don't worry about it, lost a game when the flank attack (mobile dep) couldn't navigate it's way to the right spot!
