Aaaaargh, that's Partizan (Newark) weekend, which is an annual commitment with pals - I think we may be putting a game on. Won't be able to make it AGAIN I'm afraid ... Sad I'll get there one year!

Hi Mark,

My wargaming group here in West Berkshire has recently got into FWC and would love to come to your event if there is space? There may be 3 or 4 people interested in coming.

Hi Jason - you would be most welcome to join us ... that would be FAB Smile

The event is held at the Tudor Arms in Slimbridge. http://www.thetudorarms.co.uk/

They have good quality accomodation and great food. They also have a proper caravan site - if any of you have caravans & or camper vans (it is a good option to consider).

Your group are most welcome for the whole weekend or just a day trip?

Please let me know how many and what your plans are and we'll accomodate you and add you to the mailing list so you can prepare armies.
I can be reached directly at mark.fry4 (at) btopenworld.com.

We are hosting a CWC event in mid-March, so once that is out of the way I'll get working on the scenarios etc.

Thanks for making contact

Well folks - with the CWC Landjut 2017 campaign kick-off weekend out of the way (well almost) ... I can now concentrate on the FWC Boot Camp.

This year we are looking at the following scenarios (in no particular order yet):

1). Woken Furies - I'll post full details but this is a multi-player game against the umpire. With mercenary contractors clearing a contaminated city

2). A Star-gate Too Far - individual forces but in teams - this needs a play-test to avoid the chaos of 2 years ago when just about everybody ended up stuck on the same planet!

3). Encounter scenario - lots of individual 1:1 combats with vanilla book or forum lists, 2,000pts (base) and no pimping of commanders & no Bugs (of any description) or Grey Aliens (you know who you are, I wont name names)

4). possibly another Mad Max scenario to warm us all up (1,000+ pts of scavenger/ork looky-likies) ... so get building that tanker (if you haven't already)

More details to follow - and with Woken Furies I'll need you to provide me with your email addresses [mine is: mark dot fry 4 at BTopenworld dot com] so I can send out the Contractor Briefings and Contract conditions.

All of which means we are officially ON for May 20th & 21st

Troop Requirements:

We will be going with the following on 20th/21st May and ideally you'll need to bring the following force/forces:

1). Mad Max "Gas Town Run 2" - will need a 1,000pt (so 1,100 pts for primitive) Hunter-scavenger army that includes a single War-rig (modified tanker). As per the scenario description on the dedicated Mad Max thread on this forum. You can use other models (other than Hunter-scavenger/ork types), as long as they are broadly representative but they will have Ork stats & characteristics.

2). 1:1 Encounter games: 2,500pt*(standard) army - any standard book or forum list army

3). 1,500pt*(standard) army - any standard book or forum list army - these are for the StarGate too Far scenario

4). Woken Furies - 1,250pts*(standard) - you will need transports and also infantry as this is a search & destroy building clearance scenario - Advanced Tech restrictions apply - the full scenario brief will be posted shortly in a separate thread.

*(Standard) means that Primative Tech armies get a + points advantage; Advanced Tech get a negative.

Any questions folks?

Thanks

Just (another) reminder ...

FWC Boot Camp at The Tudor Arms Sat 20th & Sun 21st May - do come along if you can make it - even if only for 1 day or even 1 game Grin

If you are already booked in - just a reminder to please bring along 2 printed copies of each of your army lists - one for me to check (& hold onto) and one for yourself.
NB: if you are using a Forum (non-book) list - please also bring along a printed copy of the list (so I can do the appropriate checking - much appreciated).

You'll also need your armies, a set of the rules, dice & measuring devices and ideally some terrain.

Any questions please do not hesitate to ask me directly or via this forum ...Cool

Cheers

Mark

Are we allowed to pimp commanders for any of the scenarios?

For the Encounter games I'm assuming no prelim bombardments, off-table artillery, orbital strikes, field defenses or ambushes

No Command pimping for any scenario Al

No extra 5% points variances

Encounter is as per the outline in rules book (Scenario 7) and that actually gives you pretty much a free hand.

However - I will 'ban' all field defenses as the spirit of the game is an 'encounter' between two forces (so any preparation is unlikely/impossible)

For Stargate - no off table assets/artillery or off-table air (e.g. air strikes or drop-ships) - gunships are ok and air-transport but they must remain on-table. Reserves are ok attached to commanders in the usual fashion.

Hope that helps?

Cheers

See the 1st paragraph of the scenarios section which says something along the lines of

No prelim bombardment, off-table artillery, ambushes, orbital bombardments, field defences unless specified by the scenario

As the Encounter scenario does not specify anything then these are out

Well it pissed down in Slimbridge for a good part of the day anyway Ian ... but we were tucked up snug in the Skittle Alley with copious amounts of food & beer/cider/lager on tap (mines a tonic water Sad)

Two great sets of Games today.
We finally had a winner in the Mad Max scenario as Graham actually managed to get his War-rig to Gas Town, closely pursued by Jon ... but sadly he ran out of drivers just in sight of the objective.

Gordon decided that going for Gas Town was not as much fun as tuffing up anybody near him & that included Dan and Mike. Dan was the recipient of a Fe'cking Big Landda dropship assault from Gordon that pretty much wiped out his entire clan in a single turn. Ah well, you live & learn!
Al brought on a Squadron of much admired tri-planes (Def Choppas to you & I) which will feature in photos on his blog nodoubt.

In the afternoon we paired up and played Scenario:7 [Encounter] on 5 different tables. The match ups included:
1). Imperial Guard (Hoth Defense Force) v Hunter Scavengers (probably Gommorians I suspect)
2). Eldar v Droids
3). Pax Arcadians v Cybernetic Species
4) Space Marines v Humans (sorry Rodger I cannot remember which list)
5). Kraytonians v (my very own) Cyber Undead (Necrons)Cool

Game 5) verses Mr Price & his well known (infamous) Pink Kraytonians was to be the test-run for my new Necrons and as I suspected they turned out to give the Krays a really close run for their money. What the Krays have in shooty tech, the Necrons have in assault ability & weird adaptive armour and expendable swarms. Playing on a heavily built up city terrain table, we got to Game Turn 6 (the scenario ends on 8) and with both of us 1 BP off breaking and decided to call it a winning draw to Steve as whilst he would have trouble breaking my army (being Cyborg Tech) I'd have equally had trouble killing his aerial massive gunships (as he'd destroyed all my AA).
However we both made a critical deployment error by choosing Static deployment. Had we chosen Mobile deployment we'd have each been able to deploy using Teleport and go straight into assault ... but you live & learn Stunned

Tomorrow is another day and we'll split into two teams and brave the Stargate Too Far scenario in the morning and the multi-player v the umpire scenario, in Woken Furies, in the afternoon.

Indeed ... anything, even the prospect of an eternity in the soulless sensation starved, frozen vacuum of an electronic hell is better than a Pink Kraytonian world of jolly smiling turtle-things! Silly

Day 2 and we saw our 10 intrepid Boot Campers up & into the Tudor Arms for a prompt 09.00 start.
Suitably fortified with coffee and bacon rolls we endeavored to unravel the mysteries of the "A Stargate too Far" scenario.

Split into 2 teams (Red & Black) with the Red team starting on their Urban Homeworld, and the Blacks on the Ice Planet. The commanders diced at random to come out through one of 6 Stargates situated on 3 tables (an abandoned verdant world; a deserted desert world and a world which seemed to just consist of large patches of open terrain among a lot of low level shrubbery).

Needless to say chaos ensued pretty quickly with 2 Red team players on a planet all by themselves . On another a Red Team Marine Corp and a Space Canadian fought themselves to a standstill (added by the later arrival of 2 other Red Team players) whilst on the last table 3 Black team players seemed to be making a meal out of finishing off a Red team Imperial Guard player (with a massive Walker) with the 'fun' only being interrupted by another Black team player and another Red team player joining the fun late in the day.
As all troops on a table were counted as suppressed each time a Stargate 'fired-up' we had at least resolved the issue of 'gate-sitting' and ambushing forces as the arrived through the gate ... but we still have work to do with this scenario as it was felt that having 6 players each with 1.500pts of troops on a 6 x 4 feet table was a little excessive.

Having said all that, we had great fun and it was a winning draw to the Red Team as they had collected more codes and had also fewer broken armies.

Then as the happy Boot Campers tucked into their lunch, the table was being set for Woken Furies ... more later as I am bushed right now Smile

Oh yes ... and the sun shined gloriously on the righteous !!!
