While I was at work today the idea of adapting BKC to a higher level occurred to me. I have looked at various rules that use 1 stand = 1 battalion and found them to be not quite what I wanted. Since an average WW2 battalion occupies a frontage (1km) about 10 times that of an average WW2 platoon (100m) what I thought about trying was the following.

Dividing the ranges by 10, but keeping the movement and command distances the same. Each turn would be about 2 hours based on the average infantry movement rate. Mg and other battalion support units would be considered part of the battalion and the basic values as listed in the rules for the various infantry units would be used. Mixed battalions would be represented by the most common type of vehicle/weapon. HQ would represent division HQ and staff with one or two per division based on how well equipped the division command was. CO would be corps and/or higher level with multiple CO if more than 1 corps fielded.

One additional rule would be road movement with units being able to double their movement rate on a road, but not being able to fight offensively and maybe count as pinned if attacked while using road movement. A deploy order would be needed to change from road movement formation to a combat formation.

Also some not to complicated logistic and supply rules.

I might be tempted to do "battalion bases" and use company sized stands as damage markers or for offensive notes. E.g. three infantry stands would give 3/30 *3 or nine dice fire, two infantry & an HMG would be 9/30-3/60 etc.

Probably needlessly complicated, but hey!

There is a rule set called PanzerKorps from Hoplite Research that uses battalion units that are made up of company stands and supporting elements. I believe Caviler Books stocks them.

The Rule Set "Field of Battle:World War 2" (a simplified but not simple Piquet based rules set) uses company bases for , usually a three stand, Battalion units. These rules include everything needed for a higher level game which still allows tactical choices. However, enjoyment of the set depends very much on how much the gamer appreciates the card based unit activation mechanics.
