I am running a Market Garden type game with Airborne holding a bridge with armour attempting to relieve. Has anyone used any rules re clearing vehicles from roads?

I was thinking of a -1 on the command to pass?

or

Road is blocked unless another vehicle of a heavier type can move it and/or the vehicle is cleared away at the end of the opponents turn like with a smoke screen?

Thoughts?

I have always stuck with the basic rule that once knocked out, vehicles cease to exist. Over the years this has made many bridge crossing battles much easier to play.

That would be my recommendation if playing at the normal 1 base = 1 platoon level. If you are using the more detailed 'skirmish' scale I can see that you might want a more detailed approach.

Pete has always tended to favour a rather abstracted view in producing rules, with the idea of keeping things as simple as possible. So your idea of a -1 command modifier to progress along a road 'blocked' by vehicles seems an excellent one, simple but effective. Or you could treat a 'blocked' road as normal cross country movement, without the advantage of ignoring command distance.

All the best, Keith.

Keith,
Yes thanks for that, it's a suggestion from the German player and I will use the minus 1 to pass, even if the unit in front is surpressed, not necessarily destroyed.
