Posted on 19 February 2016 at 10:51:16 GMT We did our first North Africa game for a long time with my new 10mm stuff (having sold all the 6mm!) One thing I noticed (after collecting the stuff) is that the British have no FAC before 1943. No real issues with that. What disappoints me is that a scheduled airstrike will gleefully bomb a (misjudged) open desert - but then ignore the lorry park that they just flew over. Do others get a bit miffed by the apparently blind and unimaginative pilots? So, I wanted a way to allow for a bit of initiative / flexibility on the part of the air crews. How about this: "Free range ground attack" - FRGA (not permitted for bombers - too high up perhaps?) - A FRGA mission can comprise up to 3 aircraft; - each aircraft has one 20cm template (like normal); - Only one FRGA mission is allowed per game per side; - Aircraft on FRGA have their arrival turn, flight path AND entry point scheduled before the game starts; - The flight path must be perpendicular to ANY table edge AND straight (so they fly along or across the table); - Roll 2D6 for the mission when it arrives - on a 12 it's a blunder, roll a further d6 1,2: "Targets in sight" - the aircraft attack the FIRST target they see within 20cm of the flight path - even if friendly; 3,4: Friendly AA is engaging them - the aircraft attack as normal, but ALL the AA/CO/HQ's along the path Before the target add 1 deviation dice; 5,6: Press on! As 1,2 above, but it's the LAST thing they can see. - FRGA may attack any unit with 20cm (not sure how far exactly yet) of the flight path - BUT it must be visible - hence FRGA is useless in woods or built up areas; - Deviation IS used and is 1x D6 per AA/HQ/CO that the aircraft's path would have put it in range of BEFORE the attack; - AA fire proper is resolved as normal with respect to the target point (NOT the flight path). We don't tend to play points games, but I'd leave the points as per a scheduled strike. Deviation might be worse, but they're more flexible as well? I've not played these - but I think I will.
