In the BKCIII recce rules a recce unit has to be within doctrine distance of the enemy in order to report intelligence and +1 to ANY command unit on a roll of 3+.
What I like about this is that it's no longer the nearest one - it's the one the recce unit CHOOSES to talk to / the one that wants to listen. BUT some (cheesy) gamers might use this to help out a command in a tight spot way-off on the other side of the table - perhaps not so good?
What I liked is that in the BKCII system of reporting intelligence when simply within 60 of ANY enemy unit (regardless of LOS) it nicely represented not only telling commanders where the enemy is, but also where he ISN'T - just as important.
So, a house rule for BKCII recce - report intelligence to ANY command unit within XXcm (not just the nearest)?
