Hi, I just got blitzkrieg commander and I read it through. But there's a rule that I just don't get. The entire high ground LOS and LOF rule (page 6). When are they within LOS? Can someone explain?
Thanks.Smile

When a target unit is forward of the crest-line - which is the imaginary line referred to that runs parallel to the lower ground unit's front base edge across the centre of the high ground...the top pic on p7 might help as well Smile

Imagine you are the lower unit looking at the hill, then imagine a line through the centre of the hill running parallel to the front edge of the lower unit. This is the crest line, if the unit on the hill is forward of this (imaginary) line, you can see it.
Er, I think the rules explained it better than me, oh well Smile

I've knocked you up a quick pic here: http://nikharwood.pbworks.com/w/page/7825482/Od...

The tank on the low ground can see the first pink tank as it is over the crest line...but not the second one...

Hope that helps Cool

I don't understand the LOS rule as written in the rules either so to identify the crest line we imagine a line perpendicular to the LOS between the two units, and place that at the centre of the hill when measured along the LOS. If a unit is on the crest line or on the viewer's side of the crest line, a LOS exists.
We have dealt with quite a number of odd shape hills using this method and it works for us.
I think what confuses us with the rule in the book is the bit about the line being parallel to the front of the unit as I don't see why a crest line should change just because the unit changes facing.
I'm sure others will enlighten me.

In real life the crest line would not be straight and could go in almost any direction. By making it parallel to the front edge of the observer is a simple but unambiguous way to define it. (how do you spell unambigthingy?)

Thanks! That was really helpful. I think that the rule is badly described in the book, and it needed a picture (but that's just me).
Now I'm all set when my 3mm minis arrive! Wink
