If a tank has tank-riders, and enters a (hidden) minefield, do the tank-riders dismount suppressed when the tank takes hits?

We figured they would, as per the passengers section in the Firing chapter (don't have the rules to hand so don't know the page ref).

Thoughts?

Luckily, the tanks hadn't gone too far in to the minefield, so the riders could dismount behind the tank, outside the minefield!

We did discuss what would be a 'sensible' reaction - stay on the (now immobile) tank and take your chances, or get off into the minefiled and take your chances....

I'm not sure what I'd do - stay on the tank and get shot, or get off and step on a mine Blackeye

My view is that they would jump off.
After all, all they would know is that there was a loud bang, and their ride had stopped and been hit by something nasty.

It's covered on Pg 21 under Knock out, it mentions that transports (soft skinned and tank riders) dismount supressed if the transport is hit but not knocked out. If the tank is knocked out, so are the passengers or tank riders.

I don't believe it makes any differentiation about the source of the hits.

Get off the tank and retreat along its track marks, would that be safe?

Clearly BKC makes no distinction between AP and AT minefields (though it would be an easy house rule), but I did read of a PZIII in North Africa disabled in an AT minefield. The commander, rather annoyed at his lost track, climbed out onto the hull and jumped down to inspect the damage - thinking that he wouldn't be heavy enough to set off an AT mine - except that he'd jumped. Big bang - no more commander!Sad
