Guys

I have an infantry unit within 3 cm of the edge of a Wood, within 20cm of, and with LOS to, an enremy unit.

Using Initiative can I move my unit 10 cm straight towards the enemy, or do I have to stop at the edge of the woods?

I assume I DO NOT have to stop at the edge of the wood as it is not dense terrain for infantry?

Is that correct?

Regards

Andy

I don't think initiative should allow you to waive the movement rules. Indeed, as an extension of the principle that any movement in dense terrain is disallowed in initiative, surely other movement penalties would have to be applied. There is a reason why infantry have to stop at a wood edge -- they like cover!

Perhaps I am wrong....

I think you must stop at the border of the wood like say the rule for terrain pag. 19 -area terrain-.
Anyway Wood is not dense terrain for infantry pag. 140 -terrain movement summary, High area terrain-

And sorry but the visibility in , out or through High area terrain (woods)is only 5cm. or 10 cm (for average profile), how can your unit have a LOS?

I presumed the unit was 3cm INSIDE the wood looking out and therefore okay for LOS. But I could be wrong.Grin

That might be the case Guy but he'd still need to stop before leaving cover. Them's the rules..

Sorry I have had a little confusion, yes the unit is inside the wood so it has LOS, anyway it must stop at the border.

Guys

Yes - the unit is 3cm inside the Wood looking to assault OUT of it.

If normal terrain rules apply i.e. the unit could move use its initiative to move forward but only to the the edge of the Wood and therefore not assault the enemy - why does the rule single-out Dense terrain for specific mention?

Wouldn't Pete just have written "normal movement rules re: terrain apply" or some such?

At Gavin - yep, I was simply commenting on the LOS query.Smile

Re the dense terrain being singled out Andy, I think the idea is that you play the normal movement rules BUT with the added restriction re Dense terrain. In your case the terrain is not dense so does not affect you (but would if you were in AFV) but the normal rules apply, so you have to stop at the edge of the terrain and gather your nerve for the next stage in the open.
