I know BKC IV has been released, but still relevant!
The rules are quite specific about firing on fortifications - fire into the Restricted arc of the bunker only. Should bunker busters like AVRE have more latitude?

Should they like Engineers in Close Assault be allowed to fire on any facing?

Reading up on their use, the spigot mortars were able to crack open the concrete of bunkers, rather than smashing through the firing slit. However, tactics also suggest that regular gun tanks were first used to engage and suppress the bunker before the AVRE approached to within the 100yd range, which implies that they had to approach in the firing arc. I guess you could try it both ways, but it feels like the attackers should use a historical combined arms approach, in which case firing from the frontal arc of the bunker seems reasonable.

Cheers, Andy

OK, I know layer, after the beaches they operated with Crocodiles and the psychological effect they had on troops in bunkers. After a warning many surrendered.
