Posted on 01 May 2011 at 16:42:17 GMT Before committing money towards anything it's always good to have some seasoned advice. What paints do people use? I'm debating whether or not to buy some FOW paints as everything seems pretty much laid out for me - but is there a cheaper alternative? |

Posted on 01 May 2011 at 17:05:30 GMT Foundry. They were cheap when I bought them, but not now! I seem to remember getting a set of fifty or so paints for about 40 quid, you'd be lucky to get 20 pots for that now. They do a nice set of WW2 paints, but I still have to use Vallejo for some colours (they are also good but I'm not keen on the pots) |

Posted on 01 May 2011 at 17:33:27 GMT Most of the time i use Vallejo, with some Games Workshop. I buy the Vallejo from Maelstrom Games (they do 10% off), Games Workshop I get from a local shop. One thing though, don't get the FoW packs, they are cheaper if you make them up yourself. Hope this is of help. Paul |

Posted on 01 May 2011 at 17:43:45 GMT The problem Paul for me is the part about making it up myself: I'm working on a Eastern Front, Germans & Russians Army. What colours should I use for flesh, german uniforms, russian uniforms etc? A colour guide is what I'm after. |

Posted on 01 May 2011 at 18:16:14 GMT Fenton beat me to it with the link. I use Vallejo paints which you can now get from Pendraken. Unfortunately they don't do a primer. I've been using Miniature Paints black primer which I don't think gives great coverage so I add some Vallejo USA Olive Drab 889. USA Olive Drab is a great colour. I know a lot of people use spray primer but I find it difficult to get into the undercuts and recesses. Same with varnish. I use Vallejo gloss followed by Vallejo matt varnish. |

Posted on 01 May 2011 at 19:24:39 GMT As an after thought and I may have read it wrong, but I heard that Vajello's russian green might have have been discontinued or the colouor of it changed |

Posted on 01 May 2011 at 20:24:13 GMT There was a lot of forum chatter about Vallejo Russian Green changing a little while back but a new formula close to the original was foung in the end IIRC |

Posted on 02 May 2011 at 11:22:42 GMT Vallejo, you can get them cheap on the internet and they are probably the same paints as FoW, but cheaper. I use their Model Colour and some Game Colour, the only difference is the Game Colour is more diluted. Model Colour performs brilliantly, even over black undercoat. |

Posted on 02 May 2011 at 14:45:38 GMT I am still a Humbrol painter, though I probably wouldn't recommend the paint. I still like it but if I had no paint, I'd probably go with Vallejo. |
