Yep - first off, have a good look at this lot:

From memory [I painted these before I got in the habit of taking proper painting notes Confused] - as well as looking at pics & knowing how I do things Wink -I've referenced GW colours for ease:

Undercoat: spray black
Overbrush: Scorched Brown
Trousers: Graveyard Earth & Catachan Green 90:10; highlight this mix + Khaki + Bleached Bone 70:20:10
Denison smock: base colour: Desert yellow; camo patches of Catachan Green & Bestial Brown
Helmets: Catachan Green; highlight + Bleached Bone
Berets: Scab Red; highlight + Bleached Bone
Flesh: Dark Fleshtone; highlight Dwarf Flesh
Weapons: Black; highlight + Codex Grey; rifle stocks & furniture: Bestial Brown

Magic wash [Klear, water, smokey ink]

Re-highlight; then final featherlite highlight of Bleached Bone.

Or something like that Wink

An overbrush is a wetbrush [rather than a drybrush] - so you load your brush, take about half of it off onto paper & then overbrush the figures: what this does is raise the detail of the figures and gives another layer of shading from the black...

There's more info on some of my standard techniques here:

and here:

And if you scroll down this page to the ACWarmaster WIP pics you can see the overbrush effect:

Desert Yellow is GW as well I think [not sure - I use Vallejo]

http://www.kerynne.com/games/BritishParas.html here are mine with some painting notes towards the bottom.

GW Desert Yellow is a good base colour for the smocks - not sure which Vallejo Model colour it would quite equate to - perhaps middlestone or green ochre, it is quite a dark yellow.

For the green and brown, do quite large blocks of colour, and with the 3rd colour make sure it touches the second colour on at least one side. See the photo of the real thing on my link as well.

I have a Belgian copy of the British Denison smock hanging in my wardrobe.

The sand/yellow colour is more like German overall camouflage yellow - like they painted the AFVs.

Apparently you can tell mine's Belgian coz the cuffs have woolly elasticated inner cuffs colour-wise apparently they're pretty well identical!

In small scales colours need to be painted lighter than they are in 'real life' - I did this by washing vallejo dark yellow over a white undercoat.

I painted my Denison smocks with a base of Vallejo Green Ochre. The brown splodges were Vallejo Hull Red (actually dark brown!) and the green ones were Vallejo Reflective Green.
