Hi there!

I've got some surplus Airfix 1/76 SdKfz 7 which are from the 88mm Gun and Tractor kit - mostly because I needed some Flak 18s/36s with and without limber. The question is: what to do with the halftracks? I've found some lo-res pics of the SdKfz 7s with 20mm and 37mm Flak installed on them - do you have any idea which Flak kit would fit the Airfix model best and how to do this conversion? Any ideas, pictures and suggestions are welcome!

Thanks
Thore

Hi Balthus,

As the scale is 1/76 and not 1/72 there are fewer manufacturers and options available to you, however here are a few ideas for you:

Mount a 37mm flak (SdKfz 7/2) - http://www.milicast.com/shop/product.php?produc...

Mount a Quad 20mm flak (SdKfz 7/1)- http://www.milicast.com/shop/product.php?produc...

The whole ground carriage was mounted on the flatbed of the half-track and you will have to make mesh sides, not as difficult as it sounds, but is time consuming. I have found this link which shows a 1/35 model of the 7/2 which you could use as a guide. Just type SdKfz 7 into Google Images and browse for some interesting shots.

All the best and happy modelling,

Paul

Back in the day I added an Esci quad 20 to sdkfz7 by simply making a round hole in the flat bed of the h/t.

This allowed the gun to be used either on the h/t or as a ground mount.

I think this was probably using the larger Hasegawa h/t though. The Airfix one is quite small IIRC.

Can also use it haul medium arty, and possibly V2's. Other than that, there are soft and Armoured Flak varinents - Sdkfz 7/1 and 7/2, as noted above.
