And so the madness begins Grin

Over the last couple of years, actually ever since I heard about the Kathies Comics D Day Megagame I have wanted to have a go at something similar for BKC and on many occasions the topic crops up in conversation at our regular Cold War Commanders events. So I have decided to begin the project, I have managed to get all the army lists used by the Megagame team all those years ago and will use them as a basis for the BKC lists. Whilst at Joy of Six I made a very small start to the project with the purchase of some Centaur 95mm CS tanks used by the RMASG on D Day. Further research uncovered that many of them were earmarked to tow Porpoise Ammo Sledges ashore so I have made a start on the first unit. 4 Centaur 95mm CS tanks complete with Deep Wading Kits and Porpoise Ammo Sledges.

OK, you've stirred up the hornets nest. Now they are coming out to play.

So, I have British 3rd Division for BKCII. Might need to polish off the third brigade, but have two ready to start the invasion tomorrow if needed. Then I also have 27th armoured brigade ready to support them. I also have 21st Pz Division ready to throw themselves on the allied lodgements. I'd need to do a bit of work on the beach defenders, but probably have enough bunkers, sea walls, casemates and the like to do Sword beach defences. Oh and at least 1 parachute brigade. Oh, and enough LSTs, LCMs, LCAs and LCIs to put everything ashore on Sword beach as well.

So, how we gonna split this one up?

So you found it then Grin

Don't know, I think the best thing for me to do is collate all the OOB info and then take it from there. What do you think? Happy to do that then maybe we should look at each beach individually. I think the first Society of Gentlemen Gamers just did Gold, Sword and Juno. The original Megagame did all five beaches? But they had a week or it might have been two.

Oh ho ho ... I might have to dig out my long unused 6mm WWII kit if you feel like adding a participant. I don't have 21st Panzer (but it is an ambition to do with Ian Armstrong's lovely models from H&R), but I can do Panzer Lehr, or the odd Heer/SS Panzer, etc., as well as Infantry divisions of various types. I've got a full Brit/CW armoured div and infantry div and same for the US. I also have quite a few landing craft, but I doubt as many as Andy ... yet ;-)

Board game wise I also have AH's old monster 'The Longest Day', which I believe has the entire OOBs down to company level. I'll check.

Well remembered Ian! Yes I'll bring it - will put it in the car now.

Mark J, the more the merrier, even Richard and I would struggle to put seven or eight divisions on the table and command them all at once - we might be tempted to try though. All my 21st Pz are by Ian Armstrong and they are lovely.

Let me know if you need owt painting, I've very reasonable rates Grin

My rates are lower, with better results. Need a few weeks lead time for Broughton, but it is booked for 1st weekend of every month.

OK, you've got me reading Max Hastings' Overlord again, while failing to sleep in this sultry weather.
So what is the scope of this going to be? Proper megalomania? All the beaches, all the defenders, all the attackers? For how long after the invasion? Platoon scale?
C'mon Richard, stop teasing and give us a hint! GimmeSillyWink

Meh, 6mm is the scale of wussies - can do a decent landing in 12mm any day - 2 dozen landing craft, enough models to do a serious divisional scale BKC battle at least and aircraft like B-17s and anything you fancy in invasion stripes. Also have a 1/144 scale destroyer in the pipeline (I have 'Dora' already to suppress battleships.....). Now looking at a pair of Tank landing crafts...

OCD is such a negative term.....

Mark J,

Starting from mild meglomania (maybe a beach or two) then moving onto proper meglomania (all five beaches) Grin

Oooh, drool, drool, drool!
How about Juno beach for starters? I fancy making some of my B&CW forces into Canucks. RM Commando actions (supported by Centaurs, Richard) on the flanks. 21st Pz (Andy) pootling about near Sword could easily get involved. On the 7th, they did and Hitler Jugend put in its first appearance as well. Whaddya think? Gimme

I'm thinking if we are planning a big game which I think we are by the sounds of it we work on Sword and Juno. I am writing up the OOB's from the old D Day Megagame and then we can all have a look and say what we have and what we need.
