After two smaller playtests, our gaming group embarked into the North African desert with a rather large tank battle between the Germans and the British.

The battle report is on my blog:

Blimey, that got very bloody very quickly!

Looks like a bad day for British armour - what went wrong?!

Nice AAR. Looked to be a good game. The British commander must have run out of smoke.

Cheers, Andy

Since this was a "first" game for our group, we played a modified encounter battle with no off-board artillery and no air support.

The Germans moved first and thus were able to get many of their panzers into range when the British advanced in the second half of the first turn. Two of the British commanders (me included) had abysmal luck with issuing more than an order or two. The two German 88s (one in each battle group) dispatched British tanks right and left. Finally, the one German artillery battalion (three batteries) was more effectively used than the three British double-batteries were.

All in all it was a learning experience. We will continue playing these rules as )I think) every one had a good time, even us British commanders who got creamed.

Lurch forwards into range, stop in confusion, get mown down? Alongside failing to cooperate with the supporting arms I'd say you have mid-desert era British down very well Grin
