I've just done my first proper (historical) scenario for BKC. It is the afternoon action at the third escarpment, Sidi Rezegh, on the 21st November 1941.

Please note - if you are planning on playing this scenario without an umpire to dish out the briefings, only read the one for the side you will play and do not read the designer notes at the end.

I've put a bit of work into it, so it might spark some interest (I hope).

The teaser pic looks good - off to the blog!

Looks good - a very confusing scenario for all concerned, which never hurts play Grin

Amazon in the US has a copy of the Agar-Hamilton and Turner book for forty dollars, allegedly - can't find anything UK based though, sadly. Shame it's not on Kindle!

I don't know if you've seen https://rommelsriposte.com/? Looks very well researched with some really interesting stuff.

thanks for the link

Abe has a few copies. It is very much worth the investment if you have a serious interest - it's a must have, IMHO.

It does look good, but I can't justify the spend sadly. Shame it's not on Kindle at a non-rare OOP price!

BTW have you played your scenario yet - and if so, how'd it go?

I've posted the pics of the first 3 turns. I've added them into the designer notes of the scenario. The Germans are making some progress and the battle is developing nicely (if differently to the historical battle). We will play turn 4 plus next week.

You might like one of our rule changes for artillery. In the test games we discovered that 'barrage' was rarely used because it rarely killed anything. Concentrations were the preferred modus operandi. However, I like the distinction, not to mention the zone width (we use the 'optional' zone sizes) so I decided to do something to make barrages more appealing - they stay in place (like smoke) for the following player phase. It will effect everything that moves under it with changed circumstances, and it counts as a +1 save for anything targeted through it as it partly obscures LOS. It also means I get to use my barrage markers.

I can't remember the last time anyone used a barrage. Like you say, concentrate, concentrate, concentrate.

You know, I don't think that we've ever used a barrage - we always concentrate to kill - 2 or 3 batteries.

I do like the idea of keeping a barrage on as low area terrain. Very clever. I'll try it.

Yes, the rules reward concentrating fire whenever possible! Especially for the desert having a barrage effectively block LoS is quite cunning...

I do like the idea, but what makes it different to smoke?

Provides +1 on the to hit through it
If you enter it you run the risk of being hit by it

Seems simple enough. I'll need some fancy explosion markers now.

Great looking table. Don't think we've ever used barrages, other than to lay smoke. Interesting idea to make an HE barrage a terrain feature effecting visibility and firing. Also has a good interdiction effect, denying an area to the enemy as long as it's being laid. Just never used it.

Cheers, Andy
